Hillcrest Park and Community Centre

Vancouver, British Columbia | 2004-2011

One of several Olympic legacy projects in our portfolio, the Hillcrest Community Centre was originally the venue for 2010 curling events. Today it, and the surrounding park, make up one of the city’s largest recreational hubs—home to baseball diamonds, soccer fields, pools, a farmers’ market, daycare, and the longstanding Nat Bailey Stadium.

PWL worked with a team to create the park master plan—sensitively melding a complex new building into an active park and an established residential neighbourhood. We led the detailed landscape design process through to the construction contract administration phase, while balancing cost control during a time of high construction cost inflation. The original park was reorganized to remove conflicts between uses, like all-weather sports fields and safe children’s play. The end result is a seamless experience between indoor and outdoor recreation, surrounded by a quilt of mature trees.
