Ambleside Village Centre Streetscape Study
West Vancouver, British Columbia | 2011-2012
This study created a unified design framework for the gradual renovation of the public realm within West Vancouver’s well-known Ambleside Village. We wanted to reflect the oceanside locale with a rich necklace of pearls by dotting the streetscape with outdoor “rooms” and seating. Because of the neighbourhood's steep streets, we created rest alcoves along the slopes to make the public realm more accessible.
We worked with public artist Bill Pechet to integrate public art elements within the design of the streetscapes lighting and site furnishings.
The streetscape design standards provide guidance for all future changes to the Village’s streetscapes—whether through private sector redevelopment or district works. Our design guidelines included standards for paving, street furnishings, integration of public art, furniture, and lighting.
