George Wainborn Park

Located on one of Vancouver’s most populous waterfronts, this six-acre park borders the north side of False Creek. Mixed-use and residential buildings frame the view to the water, with an upper plaza and lower grass slope forming the two main areas of the park. The formal structure of the park blends classic with contemporary Vancouver park design. Canopy trees throughout nod to former 33-year Parks Board Commissioner, George Wainborn, who left a legacy of prioritizing shade tree planting in City parks. The raised plaza is the terminus to Richards Street, with a sculptural water feature and seating. Pyramidal concrete-and-iron light posts flank the grass slope that descends from the foot of the upper plaza to the lower park and children’s play area; visible from the water, the posts are beacons, signaling to the ships and sailboats at sea.
