Harbourside Waterfront
North Vancouver, British Columbia | 2008-present
PWL Partnership was one of the key collaborators to envision the future potential for the Harbourside Waterfront, a collection of lands partially developed by Concert into a business park. While zoning was in place to allow for a final phase of commercial space, our team, led by Concert Properties, envisioned a different fate for Harbourside – the creation of a vibrant, mixed-use community; a place to live, work, shop and play all in an attractive, highly-walkable and sustainable neighbourhood. Following a successful Official Community Plan (OCP) amendment in July 2012, Concert’s proposal for a mixed-use Harbourside was approved by Council in June 2014.
We created a design sketchbook to present ideas to the community in a conceptual format, illustrating how the existing streetscape, the public open space, and Waterfront Park could be enhanced.
In an area that is currently characterized by light industry, our vision created a way to bring people over the railway tracks to a publicly accessible waterfront complete with retail amenities, rental and market housing and commercial office space and institutional uses.
We integrated the courtyards of each of the four development sites to a new network of streets and a waterfront plaza, all meeting at a dramatic, panoramic viewpoint that overlooks downtown and the North Shore mountains.
