Godwin Biodiversity Preserve Park
Surrey, British Columbia | 2015
In 2015, the Godwin Family gifted land to the City of Surrey through Canada’s Ecological Gifts Program for a publicly accessible park. We worked in collaboration with the family and listened to stories of how they experienced the land to inform the design.
Our goal was to restore natural systems in the park, including a salmon stream that runs through the land, while meeting the city’s requirements for public use.
We created a design framework that focuses on enhancing biological diversity on the land, protecting sensitive environmental features, developing a range of recreational opportunities, establishing spaces for gatherings and nature interpretation, and fostering community ownership of the park.
