Arbutus Centre

Vancouver, British Columbia | 2009-Present

A large redevelopment project in the heart of Vancouver’s west side, Arbutus Centre will convert an existing 1950s-era shopping centre into a vibrant seniors-focused mixed-use community.

It is designed to support an aging population, allowing residents to downsize from large single-family homes while remaining in the neighbourhood.

This multi-phase project covers nearly eight acres and underwent a lengthy rezoning process to integrate rental residential, office, community amenity, restaurant, and retail space. We worked closely with the project team to masterplan and implement a neighbourhood village that pulls the focus towards a new community centre, seniors centre, and village square. Courtyards, urban agriculture, and green roofs give residents endless space for safely strolling, gathering, and running errands — all close to home.
