Matt Gibbs is an Edmontonian who made his way to the west coast to complete a Master of Landscape Architecture at UBC. He was drawn to a profession that he views as being poised to become an industry leader in innovation. To Matt the excitement lies in the opportunity to be an artist, urbanist, conservationist, and visionary, while attempting to solve the problems plaguing the world today.
A couple years removed from school, Matt has a head start on the visionary role. His master’s thesis, a concept to introduce a winding skating trail - dubbed ‘The Freezeway’ – to his native Edmonton’s downtown, has taken on a life of its own, receiving recognition and accolades from around the globe. He hopes that this project, whether fully realized or not, will inspire similarly minded efforts to create more vibrant, adaptive, and active winter cities.
When not buzzing around the office, you can usually find Matt burning off excess energy exploring the local topography, hiking or camping in the backcountry.
