Campbell River Streetscape

Campbell River, British Columbia | 2012-2014

PWL led the planning and design of the Campbell River downtown streets supported the City of Campbell River in a process to revitalize their downtown core. The design and implementation involved deep public and stakeholder engagement that resulted in an entirely new character for several key blocks in the heart of the city.

Our goal was to infuse vibrancy into a uniquely contextual streetscape that represents the pulse of Campbell River. The design celebrates the maritime spirit of the region, reflected in the industrial material selection, like street posts inspired by wooden docks, and forms that extend the coastal surroundings into the downtown.

The redesigned streetscapes include new multi-purpose and flexible plaza spaces that accommodate improved pedestrian and cycling amenities, creating a shared street environment. We layered sustainable features like rain gardens throughout the site.
